World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading Upgrades can boost the value of weapons, armors and rings. They also boost extra bonuses like crit chance and PvE damage. For example a weapon that has the upgrade template ending in % will suffer an attack damage of 3% each time it upgrades (relative to its previous value). The cost of upgrading an item increases as it reaches the item's current level. The cost increases as the item's level increases. Components Upgrade components can be incorporated into trinkets, armor, and weapons to give them a boost in stats or add a bonus effect. They can be acquired through crafting, buying from vendors, trading or looting. Some upgrades can also be accompanied by specific cosmetic effects. Upgrade components can be placed in equipment with a slot for them; the item must be at the very least upgraded to blue level in order for the component to be used. Like other mods, upgrade components can only be used once; they can't be used multiple times or replaced with new upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a specific kind of upgrade component used for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment and some of the back items that are not ascending. Enrichments and Infusions can be obtained by salvaging equipment that is ascended or by completing a mission within the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns. A prefix or suffix may be added to an upgrade, thereby changing the name of the item it's applied to (for instance, 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' becomes Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Some upgrades boost an item's Mark Level, or Rarity, allowing players to make stronger versions of the equipment that require less Upgrade Crystals than is required to reach the same level of upgrade using normal methods. A boost upgrade can change the attack or defense attributes of the weapon or armor. These upgrades are available to be made from the Portative Forging Station once the player has completed the cutscene, and defeats the Crazed Mechanic. They can be dropped by enemies when upgrading other gear or buying them from the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals per. Each upgrade increases the probability that a higher-tier version of the item will be dropped at the next reset. This gives the player an incentive to keep upgrading their gear even if they're not sure of how much it will increase after a future reset. The process of upgrading an item can be costly, and it is possible that the item will be obsolete or even break when the upgrade is unsuccessful. Upgrade Crystals and assist powder are also destroyed if the upgrade fails. This is mitigated by the availability of cash shop items that increase or even eliminate the chances of failure, and a few upgrades that give the benefit of being reinserted into an item. Glyphs Glyphs are upgrade parts that can be placed in special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs can boost the performance of nodes within a radius, including any existing affixes. Glyphs are upgraded in many ways, and we recommend getting them to level 15 as soon as you can. In the endgame you'll find that the best way to improve your gear is by placing Glyphs. These are the only upgrade components that can be upgraded up to level 15 and give a significant boost to your power on the Paragon Board. Glyphs, which is the only upgrade component that can be removed without restriction and then replaced again, are the most common. The only exception is legendary equipment, which requires the use of a Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and then re-install. The value of each Glyph is displayed when you select it in your inventory. When you have the desired Glyphs then you need to place them on your gear. Each Glyph will grant a distinct bonus that boosts the stats of a specific set of nodes within a radius around the Glyph. Based on the Glyph, this will either be +40 to one of your primary stats or +25 to two of your secondary stats. The use of Glyphs Glyph will boost all the nodes that are linked to it, and you should try to place your Glyphs near the most important nodes of the Graph to maximise the impact. For instance an Druid should aim to place their Glyphs near their primary damage nodes but you should also be sure to place them near the most critical damage nodes too. Leveling The upgrade system of items allows players to boost the effectiveness of certain items by introducing upgraded components. This is known as “upping”. Every upgradeable item is assigned a level that determines the final stats. Upgraded items can be leveled up to a maximum of 385. Each level of item requires different components, and the cost of upgrading increase with each level. Certain upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient can be obtained by finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be purchased from NPCs or found on the upgrade tab of the crafting table. Each Upgrade Recipe completed results in a certain amount of Technology points. These points can be used to level the item, and once enough points have been earned, the upgrade will be claimed and the additional bonuses will be added to the item. When a player upgrade a piece of equipment the original item will be replaced with an item that is new. The same armor will be upgraded to a weapon or a shield when upgraded. The new item also has its own set bonus. This can be a downside since the item may increase in price even if you do not need it. The upgrades to items can be rerolled, provided that the player has enough reroll tokens to do this. The item will be replaced with the same item, but it is based on a level 1 base and totally different bonuses. This can be useful for certain items, however it shouldn't be performed frequently, since it can waste lots of resources. Certain upgrades can increase their value and allow players to personalize their gear. A good example of this is Dolphin's Gift, which gives a buff when the player repeatedly enters and leaves the water (or does not swim as a dolphin). This item can be upgraded many times, increasing the maximum roll each time by 10 increments. This item is very useful in PvP. A properly rolled version could be worth as much as 50x the value of its non-upgraded counterpart. Requirements The upgrader for items lets players increase the level of their equipment (armor, weapons, and trinkets) above ilvl385 by presenting the appropriate currency to the NPC. The item will also lose any bonuses it has gained like crit chance, attack damage, or other effects (such as a higher healing rate over time, or reloading speed). The player will be able to use their weapon or armor after the failure. Whenever an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied from lowest to highest. This means that if a weapon gains an increase in its crit chance it will be applied prior to any increase in attack damage. Slots is a new attribute that has been added to item definitions. The value is calculated every time an upgrade occurs. The amount of resources needed to upgrade an item are determined by its rarity rating and upgrade slot count. The upgrade cost for non-premium products is equal to the base value of the upgrade—for example, a common equipment item might have 5 upgrades with a cost of 25,600 Technology Points and 4x Quality Improvement Chance—whereas hero grade items will have an incredibly lower cost for each additional upgrade. Premium items could have different upgrade requirements than standard gear. For instance they may require less sowels, however they may require more minerals and orons.
